Attendance Expectations

In September, all children will be expected to attend school if they are of compulsory school age.

It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure their child attends school.

It is expected that schools will monitor attendance, follow up absence and issue sanctions, including fixed penalty notices in line with the local authorities’ code of conduct. We will do our very best to work with you to help your children return to school and we understand that some children will be anxious after so much time away from school.

These guidelines have changed since the initial lockdown in March. The Government have made it clear that it is vital for all children to return to school to minimise, as far as possible, the longer-term impact of the pandemic on children’s education, well-being and wider development.

Specific arrival and pick-up times will be published approximately a fortnight before the end of the holidays.

It goes without saying that, if the R level increases to a dangerous or concerning level during the summer holiday, we will review the safety of children returning and communicate this to you as quickly as possible.
